How construction loans work

Construction loans provide funding in stages called draws, rather than a lump sum like a traditional mortgage loan. These draws are delivered at different building phases such as foundation, framing, etc. Then, once the home is complete, the loan is converted to a mortgage. The process looks like this:

Step 1: This loan serves as a Lot/Land Loan when you find property you want to buy but might not be ready to build.

Step 2: You receive interim financing to pay your builder during construction. The loan can include the amount of the property purchase, too.

Step 3: The Construction Loan converts to a permanent mortgage with terms up to 30 years at a fixed rate, and you may be able to roll your construction costs into the final mortgage.

You've spent hours dreaming of possibilities and drafting plans, now it's time to act. Apply for a construction loan online, contact a local mortgage lender or visit a branch in Bossier City, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Metairie, Mansfield and another Louisiana locations to learn more.
